Health & Nutrition
P4P's Power of Milk (POM) program tracks and treats malnourished infants from rural villages near Kopanga, Kenya. By providing essential nutrition and health education, POM has transformed the lives of vulnerable families, ensuring infants thrive and communities flourish.

The Power of Milk
Every week, 30 children and their caregivers gather at a Kopanga clinic for the Power of Milk program, which addresses childhood malnutrition. Children are weighed and measured, caregivers receive health education, and a simple, nourishing meal is provided. When available, the most malnourished children receive a vitamin-rich peanut butter supplement.

Dominic, a three-year-old in the program, travels with his family—sometimes over six miles on foot—to access these vital services. To further support children like Dominic, P4P’s Kenyan team conducts monthly home visits to monitor progress and provide ongoing care.

Food Baskets
Twice a month, P4P provides families in the Power of Milk Program with essential foods and sundries, including maize, beans, rice, groundnuts, sugar, salt, cooking oil and soap. This to ensure that malnourished babies get the support they need to thrive, while also helping caregivers cater to others in their household.

Those participating in the Power of Milk program are also being trained to plant kitchen gardens so that they can grow crops for their family's daily consumption.

Home Visits
Each week, the P4P staff travel around Kopanga and Giribe to visit families in the Power of Milk program. The staff assess the progress of the babies, provide guidance on care and nutrition, and when needed, refer them to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Hans Junior's Story

Hans Junior is a one-year-old orphan who has been under the care of his aunt, Jane Akoth, since birth. Jane, 50 years old and the mother of eight children, adopted Hans and his two siblings.
Jane says: "If it were not for the P4P program, Hans might not be here today. When he first visited the POM program at three months old, he weighed only 3.2 kg (7lb) and appeared small, thin, with swollen feet and rashes all over his body.
Thanks to this wonderful team that stood by my side to help my son recover. I have gained valuable knowledge about nutritional education, and I now know how to support Hans's growth moving forward. I took advantage of the FGW (Farming Gods Way) training and will diversify our diets as recommended. Currently, I have a variety of nutritious vegetables growing in my kitchen garden, which has improved our family's food intake significantly."
